NEW PARK DEVELOPMENT

COUNTY PARK-NORTH Up to $19,000,000
A minimum 50 acre park from Canton NE towards the Ball Ground area would serve a large portion of the population in the northern end of Cherokee County that currently is underserved by a lack of indoor facilities. The complex could include a large playground, trails, pavilions, youth athletic complex, tennis and basketball courts and a recreation/aquatic center. A seniors’ activity center with a softball field and walking track could also be included. A large corporate pavilion would be another valuable addition to the complex. A radio-controlled flying area could be included but more than likely would be at property already purchased in the area.

COUNTY PARK-SOUTHWEST Up to $10,000,000
This community park will require the acquisition of a minimum of 40 acres total in order to provide residents with much needed facilities. The location of this park should be west of Interstate 575, south of Eagle Drive and east of Woodstock Road. Recommendations for these sites include a baseball/softball complex, a multi-purpose field complex, tennis courts, off-leash dog area, playground, walking trails and picnic pavilions. There is also a possibility of a community activity center and/or skate park for this facility. In an effort to provide parks facilities throughout the southwest area of the county, multi parks may be built rather than one regional size park. In addition, the county would negotiate with the Army Corps of Engineers for utilization of their property for passive usage and purchase adjacent property for active use. This would allow more parks to be built in the southwest area of Cherokee.

EAST CHEROKEE COMMUNITY PARK Up to $8,000,000
A new community park or parks in eastern Cherokee County will require the acquisition of 50 – 75 acres of land and provide residents with facilities they currently lack. The park will provide residents with facilities located on 50+ acres of fields and woods, including restrooms, concession building, youth athletic complex, trails, pavilions, playground, disc golf course, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, trails and a future recreation center.

CITY/COUNTY COLLABORATION (HOLLY SPRINGS) Up to $7,500,000
The city of Holly Springs and Cherokee County would collaborate on a minimum 25 acre park site that could include a Miracle League complex, a baseball/softball complex, tennis courts, walking trails, playground and pavilions. An off-leash dog area complete with small and large dog area could also be included.

CITY/COUNTY COLLABORATION (CANTON) Up to $7,000,000
A collaboration to develop the industrial park site on the banks of the Etowah River in Canton that could include the development of baseball/softball fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, multi-purpose fields and a pedestrian bridge to Heritage Park.

EXPANSION OF SOUTH AQUATIC CENTER Up to $5,000,000
The expansion of the planned South Cherokee Aquatic Center will provide for the needs of both competitive swimming (indoor) and the addition of a family fun center (outdoor component).

CITY/COUNTY COLLABORATION (BALL GROUND & WALESKA) Up to $4,000,000
Collaboration with each of these cities could include the expansion of facilities inside these communities or the creation of new parks. Cherokee County will work with both municipalities to help with the creation of new recreation & park areas in these communities and the possible expansion of current facilities.

EXPANSION OF TWIN CREEKS SOFTBALL COMPLEX Up to $1,500,000
The expansion could include the addition of three softball fields, concession/restroom building and a multi-purpose field.

GREENWAY/TRAIL SYSTEM (CITY/COUNTY COLLABORATION-WOODSTOCK) Up to $10,500,000
Although 'greenway' encompasses a variety of concepts, most greenway projects share some common elements. Greenways are linear parks or corridors. They are often developed from unused parcels of land, such as floodplains. They frequently follow some outstanding natural features, such as a stream or riverbank. A proposed greenway/trail system in Cherokee County would provide safe and secure places for people to walk, jog, bicycle or simply enjoy the landscape. Areas to consider for greenways include, but are not limited to, Little River, Etowah River, Rose Creek, Noonday Creek, Blankets Creek and Lake Allatoona. Portions of this money would be used to implement the City of Woodstock's "GreenPrints" Program.
